"There is a Difference Between
giving up and knowing when You've had Enough"
Art - 3D 2020-21
For this artwork we had to design a figure and we could use any of the media and materials we you used so far this semester. I chose to use clay for my artwork because it looked like something new and fun to use. For my artwork I chose to have a girl sitting on a dock with one of her feet in the water. I think I am going to call this artwork Just Try because of the meaning behind the artwork. When making this artwork we had to make it expressive so I chose to use the expression dipping your toe in the water. The reason why I chose that expression is because I think a lot of people can relate it to themselves. I also chose to use the expression because it is a very common one that everyone can understand. I tried to make the girl in the figure look uncertain by making her leaned back towards the dock while her feet are hanging off the dock with one slightly in the water. When looking at the artwork there are a few things that I had to do a little differently because once you really start working with the clay you kinda figure out your limitations when using it. I think the thing I had the most trouble with was getting the limbs not to fall off her. I tried scoring and putting a little water in between the broken limbs, but it was kinda hard to get between some of the spaces because they were to small to smooth it out. I am really happy with how the artwork turned out.

For the clay project I decided to make a pinch pot. I was only going to make one pinch pot but I had a little left so I decided to make a smaller pinch pot. I ended up making a bowl on three little circular legs and a little dish. I think everything went well in forming the pot and I like how the shape of it turned out. The only thing I wish I would've done better was glazing the pot because you can still see some orange in the pot. I did about five coats of both the sassy yellow and dutch blue. I love the colors together and I like that on the bowl I glazed the inside sassy yellow and the outside dutch blue, and how on the dish I did dutch blue on the inside and sassy yellow on the outside. After this artwork I have learned to develop craft because I tried clay which is something new to me, and I had to get used to how clay works and what you can do with it. I also think I reflected on how everything went and what I can do better next time.
My plan for the figure project is to have a girl sitting at the end of the dock putting her toes in the water. Right now I am working on the legs and arms of the body. So far everything has been not too bad except the body of the girl fell apart but I'm not to worried because its a pretty easy fix. I am showing the studio habits envision and engage and priests. I feel like in this artwork you really need to envision the steps of the artwork because if you don't have a plan you won't get the project done in time. I am showing engage and persist I am working through my problems like the girl breaking in half and fixing it. In this art project I am trying to express dipping your toes in the water, and to try new things that you'd never thought to try before.
