"There is a Difference Between
giving up and knowing when You've had Enough"
Art - 3D 2020-21
I think overall my favorite artwork was the cabin because it brought me the most joy building it and I think it also had the most meaning to me. I would say that the artwork I would like to redo the most would most likely be the girl sitting on the dock because she doesn't have much for hands, one of the arms fell off and I wasn't able to find time to finish painting the dock. However I still really enjoy that artwork, and as for the paint I can just use acrylic paint and paint it. Something I learned in art this year is to have patients and try new medias and materials. Although printmaking isn't really 3D I still think it would've been really fun to do. Overall I thought 3D art was fun and something I had never really done before the art class.

The topic of the last artwork was identity. Before we started creating our artwork we had to write down things that we liked and took interest in. For my final artwork I chose to make an architectural letter. I chose to make the letter "R" because of my first name. The materials used were a thicker paper, paper cups, paper tape, acrylic gesso, and acrylic paint. I decided to paint the fast foods burger, hot dog, fries, pizza, popcorn, donut, and ice cream. The background of the letter is painted a black, white, and grey marble color; with black and white paint splattered all over it. I watched a video on Blick and it gave me directions on how to create the letter. The reason for putting fast food on my artwork is because it is delicious and I wanted my letter to bring a happy feeling. I most enjoyed doing the marble because you could really play around with how it looked. Something I learned from creating this artwork is it is okay to switch up your artwork. The one thing I wish I could change about this artwork is the way the letter stands because it is very tippy.
I really like my first idea but I don't think it would be easy to make, so instead I am going to make and architectural letter. For the background of the letter I want it to be marbled. For identity I want to paint my favorite fast foods on the front of it. I don't know what all the fast foods I want on there, so far I am thinking of doing pizza, hot dog, burger, and fries. Tomorrow I plan on starting my artwork. I plan to use my time wisely. Two studio habits I think I am demonstrating are reflect and envision. I am showing reflection because I am talking honesty on how my idea from last week changed and why it had to change. I am also showing envision because tomorrow I will be starting the artwork and following a video to create the letter. I am excited to paint the artwork.
Before we started sketching ideas for the artwork we had to find and write down things that we liked. For my final artwork I plan to use clay. I plan on making a Minnesota and cutting out a silhouette of my family. I got my inspiration because when I think of identity I think of my family, because they helped shape me into the person I am today. In this artwork I plan on expressing my family because they are meaningful to me. I really like my envision for the final artwork. I plan to cut out the the minnesota then in the center cut out the word family and a silhouette of my family.
For this artwork we had to design a figure and we could use any of the media and materials we you used so far this semester. I chose to use clay for my artwork because it looked like something new and fun to use. For my artwork I chose to have a girl sitting on a dock with one of her feet in the water. I think I am going to call this artwork Just Try because of the meaning behind the artwork. When making this artwork we had to make it expressive so I chose to use the expression dipping your toe in the water. The reason why I chose that expression is because I think a lot of people can relate it to themselves. I also chose to use the expression because it is a very common one that everyone can understand. I tried to make the girl in the figure look uncertain by making her leaned back towards the dock while her feet are hanging off the dock with one slightly in the water. When looking at the artwork there are a few things that I had to do a little differently because once you really start working with the clay you kinda figure out your limitations when using it. I think the thing I had the most trouble with was getting the limbs not to fall off her. I tried scoring and putting a little water in between the broken limbs, but it was kinda hard to get between some of the spaces because they were to small to smooth it out. I am really happy with how the artwork turned out.
For the clay project I decided to make a pinch pot. I was only going to make one pinch pot but I had a little left so I decided to make a smaller pinch pot. I ended up making a bowl on three little circular legs and a little dish. I think everything went well in forming the pot and I like how the shape of it turned out. The only thing I wish I would've done better was glazing the pot because you can still see some orange in the pot. I did about five coats of both the sassy yellow and dutch blue. I love the colors together and I like that on the bowl I glazed the inside sassy yellow and the outside dutch blue, and how on the dish I did dutch blue on the inside and sassy yellow on the outside. After this artwork I have learned to develop craft because I tried clay which is something new to me, and I had to get used to how clay works and what you can do with it. I also think I reflected on how everything went and what I can do better next time.
My plan for the figure project is to have a girl sitting at the end of the dock putting her toes in the water. Right now I am working on the legs and arms of the body. So far everything has been not too bad except the body of the girl fell apart but I'm not to worried because its a pretty easy fix. I am showing the studio habits envision and engage and priests. I feel like in this artwork you really need to envision the steps of the artwork because if you don't have a plan you won't get the project done in time. I am showing engage and persist I am working through my problems like the girl breaking in half and fixing it. In this art project I am trying to express dipping your toes in the water, and to try new things that you'd never thought to try before.
For my architecture artwork I want to build a cabin. I want the cabin to have galvanized steel for the roofing and, I want the siding of the house to be wood to give it a little bit more of a cabin look. I want the siding to be a darker color and then for the trim I want it a lighter color. Some stuff that I want on my cabin are a porch swing and a fireplace. The reason I want to build a cabin is because I think it would be fun to one day own a cabin. There are so many things you could do at a cabin. I am excited to see the outcome of the artwork because it is always a little different than you expect. I started drawing out my artwork and I got my ideas from looking at pictures online and pulling ideas from my head. I like that for this artwork I was able to envision my artwork and the steps I needed to take to make the artwork successful. Through my artwork I want to express a sense of relaxation and happiness. For class we had to design a 3D artwork that was kinda sentimental to us. My artwork is a 3D design of a cabin. I chose to make a cabin because one of my dreams is to have one when I am older. The siding is wood and the roof is supposed to look like galvanized steel. I used cardboard as a foundation and thin popsicle sticks for the siding. I use cardboard and tinfoil to create the roofing. I got my idea from a picture of a cabin I saw on google. Some things that didn't go as planned was I was supposed to put a fireplace on the house, but there wasn't enough room in the spot I wanted it. I think I might find a different spot to put it because in my dream cabin I think it would be nice to have one. Another thing that I needed to fix was my porch swing. The porch swing ended up being too big to put in the place I wanted it, so I ended up covering up a door and instead put the porch swing. I really enjoyed this project because I've never done anything like it before in art class. I think I am going to call this artwork "The Year Round Weekend Vacation" because a cabin is a place you go for a short weekend vacation. My goal for this art project was to create a realistic looking cabin that showed my creativity. I tried to make my artwork look relaxing and fun. Although my cabin didn't turn out 100% how I imagined it I ended up fixing my mistakes and it still looks good. Update: I love how my cabin looks and I don't think it needed the fireplace. I got a lot of ideas from my mom and dad on how I should reconstruct it and I think overall their opinions helped a lot. I would say that my favorite thing about the cabin is probably the porch swing. I'm happy that the porch swing is one of my favorite things about the cabin because I know that it would be my favorite thing about a cabin in real life. I think i was pretty creative when it came to making the cardboard into galvanized steel and when I cut an old necklace up for the chains of the swing. Since the media fair part 1 we got make a weave, and we also got the chance to pick one of the artworks to decorate. I did do weaving before when I was little with my sisters. All it took was cardboard and yarn to complete the project. I choose to decorate my plaster gauze bowel using paint. On the inside of the bowl I used tape to make geometric shapes and then paint them with light blue, dark, blu and marble. For the outside I painted the bottom half marble and then splattered it with light and dark blue, and I painted a big charcoal line around the rim of it. I think overall I like working with the plaster gauze and the plushie I created. I showed the following studio habits: Envisioning and Reflecting. I showed envisioning because I took the time to envision how to do marble and how to make it unique to the other bowels. I showed reflecting because I told what I did to create my artworks and by telling you what when good and bad. I would say I probably won't use the paper to make a 3D artwork again because I didn't like the way it turned out. |
